Description
The Student Academy Awards is an annual competition for college and university filmmakers. Winners – selected by the professional filmmaker members of the Academy – receive trophies (but not Oscar statuettes) and cash prizes. Many have gone on to have successful careers in movies and television.
Eligibility
This program awards Gold, Silver, and Bronze Medal Awards (which go along with cash grants of $5000, $3000 and $2000, respectively) in recognition of outstanding achievements in student filmmaking in a number of categories. These categories include animated films, documentaries, narratives, and alternative films. To enter, you must submit your film (no longer than 40 minutes in length) on a DVD.
Application Procedure
If you are a domestic applicant, your application (found here: Domestic Application) is due on April 1, 2012. If you are an international filmmaker, the foreign application (found here: Foreign Application) is due on March 23, 2012.
