The Council for the Development of Social Science Research in Africa is pleased to announce the 2012 session of its Advanced Research Fellowship Programme in the framework of the Higher Education Leadership Programme (HELP), and to invite interested scholars based in African universities and research centres to submit applications for consideration.

The purpose of this scholarship to The HELP Advanced Research Fellowship programme is designed to contribute to the reinforcement and promotion of a culture of concentrated and extended reflection among African scholars on issues revolving around higher education leadership and governance in Africa. The programme particularly targets the younger generation of post-doctoral African scholars interested in carrying out advanced research on aspects related to higher education leadership in Africa.

The fellowship scholarship will be awarded to candidates from any study program of humanity and social science. in higher education institutions situated within the countries that are covered in the current phase of the programme. The countries are Ghana, Nigeria, Kenya, Tanzania, Uganda and South Africa.

Eligibility
The interested candidates are expected to be holders of a doctoral degree in any of the social sciences and humanities. All applicants are required to be affiliated to an African university or research institution within the countries covered under this programme.

Application Procedure
Please provide the the supporting document below:

• Research Proposal A research proposal of between 10 and 15 pages
• Work Programme The duration of each fellowship is one year, effective from the date of award.
• Budget Applicants are required to provide a detailed budget – up to a maximum of USD8, 000 – which includes the research and dissemination costs they expect to incur throughout the duration of their fellowship.
• Reference Letters Applications should be accompanied by three reference letters
• Curriculum Vitae Each candidate should submit a detailed curriculum vitae showing clearly the candidate’s research publications and participation in research network/activities.
• Copy of Doctoral Certificate Applicants should include a copy of their doctoral degree certificate as part of their application documents.
• Candidate’s Commitment Letter A one-page letter is expected from each applicant, affirming his/her readiness to submit a monograph-length scientific report of between 70,000 and 80,000 words as the outcome of the research carried out under the grant.

Scholarship Research - URC POSTDOCTORAL RESEARCH FELLOWSHIPS 2013 AT UNIVERSITY OF CAPE TOWN, SOUTH AFRICA

Description
The University of Cape Town URC Postdoctoral Scholarship Fellowships have been established to encourage excellent doctoral graduates to undertake research and academic training as Postdoctoral Research Fellows at the University of Cape Town in 2013.  The Fellowships are based on academic merit and the number and quality of the applicant’s peer reviewed publications will be taken into account.

Value of scholarship grant:
The value of the scholarship grant are fixed at R190, 000 per annum and are tenable for a maximum of 12 months, and include any relocation expenses.  The Fellowships carry no benefits and a directive for tax exemption will be applied for by UCT on behalf of the successful candidate.

Eligibility

• All South African and foreign candidates are eligible, but preference will be given to applicants who graduated with the doctoral degree from universities other than UCT.  
• Applicants who graduated from UCT at BOTH undergraduate and postgraduate levels are ineligible.
• Only applicants who attained the PhD degree no longer than 5 years ago, and are not yet in academic or research posts are eligible.  
• There is no restriction on any particular discipline or field of research, but applications from other African countries and from women and black researchers will be given preference.  
• Applicants who have not yet graduated with the PhD degree must provide proof that the PhD thesis has been submitted by no later than 15 September 2012. Such proof must be accompanied by a written statement by the supervisor that the degree is likely to be achieved.  
• The successful candidate will be expected to undertake the agreed research as well as optional but limited teaching duties as part of professional development;
• successful candidates will not be expected to perform any service to the host-department at the University of Cape Town in return for the Fellowship.
• The URC Postdoctoral Fellowship is considered to be a PRIMARY AWARD and cannot be held in full concurrently with any other award.  A maximum of 50% (R95,000) of the value of the award can be held concurrently with other postdoctoral fellowship(s) up to the overall limit of income from all sources of R350,000. 
• It is crucial that applicants’ research interests and faculty needs are in line with those of the host department.
• Successful candidates will be expected to publish an appropriate number of papers, as determined by the discipline.
• Successful candidates will be required to enter into a Memorandum of Agreement with the University of Cape Town, and a Memorandum of Understanding with his/her Principal Investigator.  
• Successful candidates will be required to comply with the University of Cape Town’s approved policies, procedures and practises for the postdoctoral sector.

THE KEVIN ROCHFORD MEMORIAL SCHOLARSHIP by THE UNIVERSITY OF CAPE TOWN, SOUTH AFRICA

Description
A scholarship programme has been established in memory of Professor Kevin Rochford who was a respected and loved Associate Professor in the UCT School of Science Education till his untimely passing on 22 April 2008.  According to a number of reports, he was an exceptional teacher, who was always available, flexible and he taught with a unique combination of authority and an element of surprise.  He would walk the extra mile for his students and he also ran many Comrades and Two Oceans Marathons, representing the UCT Athletics Club magnificently for many years.

Eligibility
Eligible candidates must have achieved a weighted average of at least 60% in the final year of the previous qualification.  Suitable candidates must show financial need, and must intend to pursue a career in Science (or Mathematics) Education.  There is no restriction on race or gender.

1. write a letter of application outlining the intended study and how she/he intends to use the study in her/his career in the future, specifying the intention to pursue his/her career in Science (or Mathematics)Education;
2. attach a certified copy of all academic transcripts (University only);

4. provide a letter from the Course Convenor/Head of Department indicating that he/she is likely to be accepted by the relevant department for study in 2013.

Description
The Thuthuka Bursary Fund is looking for academically strong black and coloured learners who aspire to become Chartered Accountants. Students who do exceptionally well in Mathematics and have excellent marks in the other subjects to qualify for university entrance may apply.

Sasol Bursary Scheme For Post Graduate Students From South Africa, South Africa

Eligibility
