The Library Company of Philadelphia and the Historical Society of Pennsylvania each year offer two one-month fellowships to support research in residence in their collections by foreign national scholars of early American history and culture living outside the United States. The fellowships are funded by the Barra Foundation, Inc.These two independent research libraries, adjacent to each other in Center City Philadelphia, have complementary collections capable of supporting research in a variety of fields and disciplines relating to the history of America and the Atlantic world from the 17th through the 19th centuries, as well as Mid-Atlantic regional history to the present.

Benefit
The successful applicants will receive stipend is $2,500, plus an allowance for travel expenses. Description
This fellowship program specially aimed to to support a one-year mentored research fellowship for investigators who are interested in studying diseases and conditions in developing countries. The program will provide trainees with outstanding, interdisciplinary education and training in innovative global health research designed to promote health equity for populations around the world. Trainees will be matched with top-tier global health research faculty from one of the four participating U.S. institutions and an international site, thus enabling them to engage in rich and enduring, mentored research experiences that will foster scientific and career development in global health research.

Benefit:
The successful applicants will receive the benefits as follow: Fellowships will provide support for 11 consecutive months of stipend, health insurance, modest researchsupply costs, travel costs to and from the international field site, and a five-day orientation on the campus ofthe National Institutes of Health. The Dissertation Fellowships in East European Studies Offered By The American Council of Learned Societies, USA

Description
The American Council of Learned Societies offers support for dissertations in East European studies in all disciplines of the humanities and social sciences. This fellowships are purposed to secure funding (for one year only) for this competition, which in the past has been supported by the Title VIII Program of the U.S. Department of State. There is no competition for Postdoctoral Fellowships this year.

This scholarship award is offered by The United Nations University – International Institute for Software Technology (UNU-IIST) in Macau China which is specially offered for PhD candidate to carry out research as part of a project on Peer-Production Approaches to e-Learning within a collaboration between UNU-IIST, the University of Macau and the University of Pisa, Italy. The PhD candidate will be directly involved in the analysis of collaborative networks and Free/Libre Open Source Software (FLOSS) projects, with a special focus on the identification and description of learning processes, development of e-learning models based on the peer-production paradigm, definition of pedagogical metrics for such models and continuous monitoring of their implementation as well as benchmarking towards the outcomes of the preliminary data analysis.

The PhD candidate will be enrolled in the double degree PhD programme in ICT for Sustainable Development of the United Nations University and the University of Pisa, will work under the direction and supervision of Dr. Antonio Cerone, UNU-IIST Research Fellow, and will be also co-supervised by Dr Simon Fong, University of Macau, and by one of the leading members of the Knowledge Discovery and Delivery Laboratory – KDD Lab, a joint research lab of the University of Pisa and ISTI-CNR.

International criminal trials are not solely a matter of determining individual guilt or innocence. They also provide a platform for competing narratives about the nature and evolution of conflicts, about conflicting world views and about diverging conceptions of justice. Participants use international trials to broadcast their worldviews to wider audiences. Legal scholarship, however, has neglected the theatrical elements of international trials. This project seeks to remedy this neglect through an examination of cases across different courts and tribunals, studying linked dramaturgical and political strategies exhibited by key participants. The research potentially includes material as diverse as documentaries and films, for the way in which international criminal trials are narrated and portrayed.

The Social Science Research Council (SSRC) is currently offering grants to support public engagement by academic experts on Islamic traditions and Muslim societies. The grants program seeks to encourage projects permitting the dissemination of academic research on Islamic traditions and Muslim societies to targeted constituencies, with particular emphasis on media and policymakers. The Mellon International Dissertation Research Fellowship (IDRF), USA

Description
The Mellon International Dissertation Research Fellowship (IDRF) offers nine to twelve months of support to graduate students in the humanities and humanistic social sciences who are enrolled in PhD programs in the United States and conducting dissertation research on non-US topics. • Student must attend a U.S. or Canadian university and be enrolled as a full-time graduate student in the Computer Science, Electrical Engineering, or Mathematics departments (if your department is within the scope of these areas, but is titled differently, you are eligible).
• Students must be enrolled in their first year in a graduate program in Computer Science, Electrical Engineering, or Mathematics for academic year 2012–2013. If a student has already completed graduate-level coursework in any subject area, prior to their first year in Computer Science, Electrical Engineering, or Mathematics, then the student is not eligible for the Scholarship program.
• A maximum of three applicants per department, per university will be accepted. A total of nine applicants total per university will be allowed.
• Payment of the scholarship awards, as described above, is made directly to the university. The recipient must remain enrolled in a graduate program during the 2013–2014 academic year or forfeit the award.

Advanced Research Fellowships Bya The Council for the Development of Social Science Research in Africa (CODESRIA), Africa

Description
The Council for the Development of Social Science Research in Africa is pleased to announce the 2012 session of its Advanced Research Fellowship Programme in the framework of the Higher Education Leadership Programme (HELP), and to invite interested scholars based in African universities and research centres to submit applications for consideration.

The purpose of this scholarship to The HELP Advanced Research Fellowship programme is designed to contribute to the reinforcement and promotion of a culture of concentrated and extended reflection among African scholars on issues revolving around higher education leadership and governance in Africa. The programme particularly targets the younger generation of post-doctoral African scholars interested in carrying out advanced research on aspects related to higher education leadership in Africa.

The fellowship scholarship will be awarded to candidates from any study program of humanity and social science. in higher education institutions situated within the countries that are covered in the current phase of the programme. The countries are Ghana, Nigeria, Kenya, Tanzania, Uganda and South Africa.

Eligibility
The interested candidates are expected to be holders of a doctoral degree in any of the social sciences and humanities. All applicants are required to be affiliated to an African university or research institution within the countries covered under this programme.

Application Procedure

• Research Proposal A research proposal of between 10 and 15 pages
• Work Programme The duration of each fellowship is one year, effective from the date of award.
• Budget Applicants are required to provide a detailed budget – up to a maximum of USD8, 000 – which includes the research and dissemination costs they expect to incur throughout the duration of their fellowship.
• Reference Letters Applications should be accompanied by three reference letters
• Curriculum Vitae Each candidate should submit a detailed curriculum vitae showing clearly the candidate’s research publications and participation in research network/activities.
• Copy of Doctoral Certificate Applicants should include a copy of their doctoral degree certificate as part of their application documents.
• Candidate’s Commitment Letter A one-page letter is expected from each applicant, affirming his/her readiness to submit a monograph-length scientific report of between 70,000 and 80,000 words as the outcome of the research carried out under the grant.

Swiss Government Excellence Scholarship Awards for PostgraduateInternational Students, Switzerland

Description
The Swiss Government, through the Federal Commission for Scholarships for Foreign Students (FCS), awards various postgraduate scholarships to foreign scholars and researchers:

• University scholarships (Swiss universities, Federal Institutes of Technology as well as Universities of Applied Sciences)
• Arts scholarships (schools of music and fine arts, only for a limited number of countries).
• These scholarships provide graduates from all fields with the opportunity to pursue doctoral or postdoctoral research in Switzerland at one of the public funded university or recognized institution.

Eligibility

1. First class Master degree or equivalent University degree if applying for PhD studies/research or a First Class Doctoral Degree if applying for a Postdoctoral research.
2. For PhD studies/research, the candidate should not be more than 35 years old at the moment of the application.  For postdoctoral research,  there should not be a gap of more than 5 years between the award of the PhD and the application deadline.
3. Applicants should be residing in their home country at the moment of the application.  Applicants who are in Switzerland since more than 1 year are not eligible
4. Applicants must provide a letter (e-mail) from a Professor from the Swiss host institution stating that he/she is willing to supervise the Research, PhD, or the Postdoctoral research. For PhD studies, applicants must apply to the chosen Swiss University as well as for the scholarship.
5. Applicants must have a research proposal including a timeframe (this is the central piece of the application. The applicant must devote all required attention to it)
6. Applicants must be in command of the necessary language skills required for the Research, PhD Studies or the Postdoctoral research.
