Doctoral Scholarship Award Scholarship in Analytical Models for Learning Processes in FLOSS Communities at United Nation University, Macau - China

This scholarship award is offered by The United Nations University – International Institute for Software Technology (UNU-IIST) in Macau China which is specially offered for PhD candidate to carry out research as part of a project on Peer-Production Approaches to e-Learning within a collaboration between UNU-IIST, the University of Macau and the University of Pisa, Italy. The PhD candidate will be directly involved in the analysis of collaborative networks and Free/Libre Open Source Software (FLOSS) projects, with a special focus on the identification and description of learning processes, development of e-learning models based on the peer-production paradigm, definition of pedagogical metrics for such models and continuous monitoring of their implementation as well as benchmarking towards the outcomes of the preliminary data analysis.

The PhD candidate will be enrolled in the double degree PhD programme in ICT for Sustainable Development of the United Nations University and the University of Pisa, will work under the direction and supervision of Dr. Antonio Cerone, UNU-IIST Research Fellow, and will be also co-supervised by Dr Simon Fong, University of Macau, and by one of the leading members of the Knowledge Discovery and Delivery Laboratory – KDD Lab, a joint research lab of the University of Pisa and ISTI-CNR.

Benefit: The successful applicant will recieve a monthly stipend will be USD 1,000 during the stay in Macau and USD 1,500 during the stay in Pisa. Health insurance is provided free of charge. During the stay in Macau accommodation (except utility costs) is also provided free of charge.

Eligibility

• Candidates for the position should have a Master degree in computer science, software engineering, or information and communication technology, or in a similar discipline;
• background and experience in information retrieval, data mining and text mining techniques, machine learning techniques and ontology engineering; strong programming ability;
• good English writing ability; ability to work both independently and in a team.
• Previous experience in Free/Libre Open Source Software (FLOSS) project participation and in empirical software engineering, knowledge of antipattern technology, pedagogical metrics and standardised models for learning behaviours and background in statistics are advantages.

Research Grant In Environment and Health, China

Description
The collaborative grants program was started in 2008 to stimulate new research on environment and health in China that is directly linked to policy and practice, to encourage collaboration across disciplines, and to help develop a network of scholars working in this field.

Each year 7-8 grants of $10-15,000 are given to Chinese institutes for projects that:  

1. integrate environment or health perspectives into research currently focused on a single domain by sharing existing data or conducting limited additional data collection
2. develop a new focus on environment and health within the context of ongoing research on development
3. broaden the scope of analysis through collaboration with partners who bring additional disciplinary perspectives or international experience; or
4. work with NGO or government partners to make existing research more accessible and useful.

Each project must address an environmental health problem that affects a substantial number of people and it must be clearly useful in generating or disseminating knowledge that will inform policy or the work of government or civil society actors.  In order to ensure feasibility, applicants must demonstrate the necessary access to data, or relationships with local communities or government agencies, to conduct the project successfully. If the project is being carried out at the local level, researchers must either live and work in the same province, or otherwise demonstrate how the project will build local capacity to work on environment and health issues.

CHINA/PACIFIC ISLANDS FORUM (PIF) SCHOLARSHIP FUNDED BY CHINA GOVERNMENT, CHINA

Description
China/Pacific Islands Forum (PIF) scholarship program is a full scholarship provided for PIF member countries by the Ministry of Education of P. R. China (hereinafter referred to as MOE). MOE entrusts China Scholarship Council (hereinafter referred to as CSC) to manage the recruitment and carry out the routine management of this scholarship program.

Chinese HEIs use Chinese as their official instruction language for the undergraduate education, Certain Chinese HEIs could conduct part of the postgraduate programs and non-degree courses for general and senior scholars in English. Applicants with no command of Chinese are generally required to take one to two years’ Chinese language course (for undergraduates program applicants, one to two years’ college preparatory courses) prior to the academic study. Only by passing the examinations after the above courses, could they start their academic studies. For those who need to take the Chinese language courses or college preparatory courses, the scholarship duration will be extended automatically.

Eligibility
Applicants must be non-Chinese citizens from PIF member countries and be in good health.
Education background and age limit:

• Applicants for undergraduate studies must have senior high school diploma with good grade and be under the age of 25.
• Applicants for master’s degree studies must have bachelor’s degree and be under the age of 35.
• Applicants for Doctoral degree studies must have master’s degree and be under the age of 40.
• Applicants for Chinese training program must have senior high school diploma and be under the age of 35, Chinese language is the only subject available.
• Applicants for general scholar candidates must have completed at least two years of undergraduate studies and be under the age of 45.
• Applicants for senior scholar candidates must have master’s degree or above, or hold academic titles of associate professor or above, and be under the age of 50.

Stockholm Arbitration Scholarships For Chinese Law Graduates To Study Arbitration In Stockholm, Sweden

The Master of International Commercial Arbitration Law program (ICAL) at Stockholm University is pleased to announce that three full-tuition scholarships have been generously donated by three leading Swedish law firms: Gernandt & Danielsson, Mannheimer Swartling, and Vinge.

The scholarships will enable three highly qualified Chinese students to participate in the one-year LLM, post-graduate program in Stockholm, Sweden at Stockholm University. The Master of International Commercial Arbitration Law program provides a truly international and comparative study of arbitration law from both theoretical and practical perspectives. The ICAL program brings together about thirty exceptional young lawyers from all regions of the world each year to engage in an interactive program taught by academics and leading practitioners.

Eligibility

• Chinese citizens with a Bachelor of Laws degree from a university in China.
• To be eligible for the scholarship, applicants must hold a university diploma in laws or an equivalent law degree of at least 120 (180 ECTS) credit points (a three‐yeardegree) at the time of application. Applicants must also meet the English language requirements for admission to the programme.

Vivian Wong Postgraduate Scholarship For Manland China and Hongkong Students At Kent University, UK

The scholarship is open to full-time postgraduate students enrolling onto programmes at Kent Law School. Applicants should be either passport-holders of the People’s Republic of China or permanent residents of Hong Kong not currently registered on a postgraduate course at the University of Kent. Applicants should have received an offer of a place at the University of Kent for 2012 entry.

Eligibility

• either hold a valid passport issued by the People’s Republic of China or be permanent residents of Hong Kong
• have been assessed as overseas for fee purposes
• been offered a place to study on a University of Kent postgraduate law degree programme
• have accepted or will accept by 31 May an offer of a place to study at the University of Kent.
• have already achieved or will achieve an agreed level of academic performance in their academic study prior to starting their programme at Kent. (Note: the scholarship will only be confirmed when the student has been offered an unconditional place at the University)

Scholarship in Design, Engineering and Computing At Beijing Jiaotong University (BJU), China

Description
This scholarship is awarded annually to students from Beijing Jiaotong University (BJU) with the highest academic performance progressing to a range of undergraduate and postgraduate programmes in the School of Design, Engineering and Computing.

Eligibility
You must be resident in China at the time of application. You must also have successfully completed relevant programmes at Beijing Jiaotong University, China.

Application Procedure
There is no formal application process for this scholarship which will be automatically awarded to the applicant for September 2012 with the highest grade average and who has met all their conditions of offer by the 21 September 2012 . In the event that two students have the same highest score, their IELTS score will then be taken into consideration.
