Scholarship Fellowship: The Gabriel García Márquez fellowship in cultural journalism, Colombia

Description
This program is established by the New Journalism Foundation -FNPI -and the Ministry of Culture of Colombia in collaboration with the Secretary of Culture of Barranquilla, the Cartago Foundation, the Hay Festival, the Cartagena International Music Festival, and with the support of the Organization Ardila Lülle (OAL) and the University Jorge Tadeo Lozano, Caribbean campus.

The purpose of this award is to use the themes of music, literature and popular culture to strengthen the basic forms of cultural journalism, specifically the interview, extended reportage and critical commentary. It will also give an opportunity to think about the role of cultural journalism in an era in which creator and audience have an increasingly direct contact, facilitated by digital tools.

The Gabriel García Márquez fellowship in Cultural Journalism will be divided into three modules: Music, Popular Culture and Literature. All modules will be coordinated by FNPI teacher Héctor Feliciano and the American journalist Jonathan Levi. In addition, each module will include guest experts, both national and international.

Eligibility

1. We will select 20 journalists, fluent in English, with a minimum of three years experience, who work or publish in print or digital media.
2. To verify English proficiency, there will be an interview via telephone or skype with the finalists.
3. 6 places will be reserved for Colombians, some of whom may be selected from among the journalists who have previously participated in the training program in cultural journalism of the Ministry of Culture.

• An autobiography, between 400 and 800 words (in English, Spanish or Portuguese), stressing both journalistic experience in the cultural field (music or literature according to the module chosen) and reasons for wanting to attend the fellowship.
• With this text we want to evaluate your narrative skills and your ability to construct a engaging reportage. Try your best!
• This essay is the most important criterion for selection and should be prepared prior to completing the form online. Conventional resumes will not be taken into account.
• A letter of support that certifies employment with the media for which you work. In the case of freelancers, we require certification from the media that you have published there during the previous six months. In both instances, the letter must specify that the media is committed to publishing the articles you produce during the fellowship, as long as they comply with their editorial politics
• A piece of reportage or other article of your authorship that has been published in the past year. This text must focus on either music or literature depending on the module chosen by the applicant.

International Human Rights Fellowship Scholarship By Human Right Watch

• Alan R. and Barbara D. Finberg Fellowship - Established in memory of Alan R. and Barbara D. Finberg, early supporters of Human Rights Watch (“HRW”), this fellowship is open to recent graduates (at the Master’s level) in the fields of law, journalism, international relations, or other relevant studies. Graduates with LL.B. degrees or advanced degrees in other relevant disciplines may also be considered.
• Arthur Koenig Fellowship - Established in 2010, the Arthur Koenig Fellowship is a two-year fellowship designed to help bring talented people from disadvantaged economic backgrounds or from communities deeply affected by human rights abuse into the human rights movement. The Arthur Koenig fellowship is open to recent graduates (at the Master’s level or above) in the fields of law, journalism, international relations, or other relevant studies. Graduates with LL.B. degrees or advanced degrees in other relevant disciplines may also be considered.

Eligibility

1. Applicants must demonstrate a strong background in international human rights and be committed to building a career in human rights. Research experience, including experience conducting interviews, ideally in the context of human rights research, is required. Field experience in human rights work is strongly desirable. Applicants must have exceptional analytic skills and excellent oral and written communications skills in English. Proficiency in one language in addition to English is strongly desired as is familiarity with countries or regions where serious human rights violations occur.
2. Applicants should be highly motivated and well-organized; able to work quickly and well under pressure, both independently and as a member of a team; able to juggle multiple tasks; and able to meet tight deadlines. The fellowship year will require creativity, initiative, perseverance, and flexibility while maintaining HRW’s high methodological standards.
3. fellows must be recent graduates of law, journalism, international relations, or other relevant studies, or must provide evidence of significant, comparable, relevant work experience

JB Fairfax Scholarship Award for Rural Journalism, Australia

Description
This scholarship program Award for Rural Journalism purposed to encourage university students to pursue a career in rural journalism upon graduation. The Award was established through a private donation from Mr John B Fairfax AO.

The winner of the award will be awarded a scholarship of up to $10,000 and practical work experience at Rural Press and the 2013 Sydney Royal Easter Show. The winning article is published in a major rural publication.

Eligibility

• Be enrolled to study in any undergraduate or postgraduate degree of relevance to rural affairs at an approved Australian education provider
• Submit a feature article of up to 1,200 words, exploring a contemporary issue, trend or activity of interest to rural and regional communities.  The feature must be of publication standard, including a minimum of four sources in the article
• Submit a news article of up to 600 words on the topic "Foreign Ownership of Australia's Agricultural Land", The news article must be of publication standard, including a minimum of  three sources including a primary producer
• Demonstrate an active interest in rural affairs and in pursuing a career in rural journalism upon graduation
• Be an Australian citizen or permanent resident
• Be aged 30 years or under

The Mohammed Bin Rashid School For Communication Scholarship, Dubai

Description
The Mohammed Bin Rashid School for Communication (MBRSC) was established following the directives of His Highness Sheikh Mohammed Bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Vice President and Prime Minister of the UAE, Ruler of Dubai, at the American University in Dubai. MBRSC is the first academic institution in the region to offer world-class and specialized undergraduate courses in various communication fields including Journalism and Digital Production and Storytelling.

The School was founded with the aim of attracting the brightest students from across the Arab world, those who aspire to become communicators, by providing them with solid academic training. Upon their graduation, these students are hoped to contribute to the evolution of media institutions in the Arab World and help rise with it to international standards of professionalism and quality.

For the School to be able to recruit such a diverse student body from all corners of the Arab World, it is important to provide financial aid to those in need. To this end, His Highness Sheikh Mohammed Bin Rashid Al Maktoum has generously pledged that 75% of the student body who meet the admissions requirements and are accepted into the program will be eligible for full scholarships.

• Teachers/advisers may nominate students or students may nominate themselves for this award. (More than one student per entry per school is permissible.)

The Intajour Fellowship Program is a ten-month-long course called "Journalism in the Digital World". Visiting Journalist Program by Woodrow Wilson Center For Arabian Journalist, USA

Description
The Woodrow Wilson International Center for Scholars is Washington's only independent, broad spectrum, non-partisan institute for advanced research where vital current issues and their historical and cultural backgrounds are explored through research and dialogue.

The stipend provided is $5,000 per month. In addition, the Wilson Center will pay roughly three-quarters of the health insurance premiums for the visiting journalist, and the journalist will pay roughly one-quarter of the cost. The journalist will be provided with suitable work space, a Windows-based computer, and where feasible, a part-time research assistant. The Wilson Center Library provides access to digital resources, its book and journal collections, and to the Library of Congress, university and special libraries in the area, and other research facilities.

Eligibility
This competition is open to Arab men and women from, and working in, the Middle East or North Africa in the Arabic media. Applications will be accepted from members of the print, television, radio or electronic media. Candidates must be currently working as reporters and columnists or broadcasters.

Applicants must have at least five years of professional experience and must be able to work in both written and spoken English and Arabic. Applicants must be able to hold a valid passport and obtain a J1 visa.
