Description
The fellowship award is offering two types of fellowship support in 2012, providing financial and academic support to graduate students in the early stages of dissertation development and Ph.D. candidates near completion of their doctoral programs in the social sciences and related humanities.

Pre-Dissertation Awards (PDAs)
Pre-Dissertation Awards (PDAs) enable early stage graduate students to perform initial field assessments of up to 4 weeks for archival exploration, preliminary interviews, and other forms of feasibility studies related to their dissertations. We anticipate awarding 6 young scholars the opportunity to gain firsthand knowledge of their proposed field sites, establish contacts within local communities, meet with local scholars, and gain insight into how their dissertation topic resonates with regional intellectual, political and social currents. Proposals should reflect a clear plan for initial field assessment, require a budget of less than $3,000, and clearly articulate the policy relevance of the proposed project.

Dissertation Development Awards (DDAs)
Dissertation Development Awards (DDAs) are intended to provide one year of support to enable the prompt completion of a PhD dissertation. We anticipate offering approximately 10 DDAs (with stipends up to $20,000) to advanced graduate students who have completed their fieldwork. Fellows will participate in professionalization activities and a fall workshop, and contribute to the Eurasia Program's new working paper and policy brief series. Applicants should pay serious attention to the policy-relevant aspects of their research.

Eligibility
Pre-Dissertation Awards target graduate students in the first three years of study in a Ph.D. program. Awards require evidence of ethics training and recipients will be required to obtain University IRB approval for their project, if necessary. Funds are to be used before applicants defend their dissertation proposals.

Dissertation Development Awards seek applicants who have obtained ABD status (must have completed all requirements for the Ph.D. degree except for the dissertation) by the application submission deadline. Applicants should demonstrate the ability to complete their dissertation by the end of the fellowship support period (August 2014), and demonstrate evidence of University cost-sharing.

International Research Fellowships in American History and Culture Funded By The Barra Foundation, USA

Description
The Library Company of Philadelphia and the Historical Society of Pennsylvania each year offer two one-month fellowships to support research in residence in their collections by foreign national scholars of early American history and culture living outside the United States. The fellowships are funded by the Barra Foundation, Inc.These two independent research libraries, adjacent to each other in Center City Philadelphia, have complementary collections capable of supporting research in a variety of fields and disciplines relating to the history of America and the Atlantic world from the 17th through the 19th centuries, as well as Mid-Atlantic regional history to the present.

Benefit
The successful applicants will receive stipend is $2,500, plus an allowance for travel expenses. 2013-2014 International GHES Fellowships Awards, USA

Description
This fellowship program specially aimed to to support a one-year mentored research fellowship for investigators who are interested in studying diseases and conditions in developing countries. The program will provide trainees with outstanding, interdisciplinary education and training in innovative global health research designed to promote health equity for populations around the world. Trainees will be matched with top-tier global health research faculty from one of the four participating U.S. institutions and an international site, thus enabling them to engage in rich and enduring, mentored research experiences that will foster scientific and career development in global health research.

Benefit:

The Dissertation Fellowships in East European Studies Offered By The American Council of Learned Societies, USA

Description
The American Council of Learned Societies offers support for dissertations in East European studies in all disciplines of the humanities and social sciences. This fellowships are purposed to secure funding (for one year only) for this competition, which in the past has been supported by the Title VIII Program of the U.S. Department of State. There is no competition for Postdoctoral Fellowships this year.

Fellowships will be granted based on the potential of the applicant, the quality and scholarly significance of the proposed work, and its importance to the development of the field of East European studies. ACLS selection committees consider language competence essential to research.

Fellowship Scholarship in International Human Rights By Oak Institute, Colby College, USA

Description
The fellowship award is annually provided by the Oak Institute brings an Oak Human Rights to teach and conduct research while residing at the College. The Institute organizes lectures and other events centered around the fellow’s area of expertise. For the past eighteen years, Wendy's Restaurants have teamed up with the Heisman Memorial Trophy Committee to create the Wendy's High School Heisman Award. The award honors both male and female high school students who excel in academics, athletics and student leadership.

Eligibility
Both man and woman student athletes who exhibit excellence in the classroom are encouraged to apply, on the playing field, and within their communities. The Princeton Society of Fellows, an interdisciplinary group of scholars in the humanities, social sciences, and selected natural sciences, invites applications for the 2013-2016 Fellowship competition. Four three-year Postdoctoral Fellowships will be awarded this year. The stipend for the academic year 2013-14 will be approximately $78,000. • East Asian Studies (EAS): This fellowship is sponsored jointly by the Mellon Foundation and the Princeton Society of Fellows in the Liberal Arts, with East Asian Studies as both the host department and affiliated program. The successful candidate will pursue research, contribute to the Society’s activities, and collaborate to team-teach for two years in an interdisciplinary seminar course aimed at rethinking the intellectual and cultural history of early modern East Asia, 1500-1800.
• Race and/or Ethnicity (RE): This fellowship is sponsored jointly by the offices of the President and Dean of the Faculty of Princeton University, and the Princeton Society of Fellows in the Liberal Arts. The postdoctoral fellow will be expected to pursue research that explores the discursive forms and meanings of concepts of race and ethnicity in one or more selected disciplines in the humanities and social sciences. The selection committee particularly welcomes applications from candidates whose scholarship is driven by innovative, interdisciplinary, and historical ways of thinking, including interests in pre-modern and non-western cultures.

1. PhD degree requirements. Please note the Society's dates of degree eligibility. These are firm dates with no exceptions: a) Candidates already holding the PhD degree at time of application: You must have received your degree between January 1, 2011 and October 1, 2012. In that book, he gathered together the advice offered by the major religious scriptures of the world, various schools of philosophical thought, storytellers, scientists, artists, and historians regarding one crucial question: “What does it mean to live a good life?” To this day, that text remains a wonderful source of inspiration to people around the world, and this year, which marks the centenary of John Templeton’s birth, the publishing company that bears his name is releasing a revised commemorative edition of that book entitled The Essential Worldwide Laws of Life.

Eligibility
Interested applicants should be high-school seniors graduating with either the class of 2012 or 2013 and planning to be enrolled part- or full-time in an undergraduate degree program at an accredited college,  university, or trade school in the United States or its territories. Winnings will be paid through the financial aid offices of the winners’ respective institutions. In order to receive your winnings you will need to be enrolled somewhere no later than the start of the Fall semester of 2013.

Application Procedure
Written entries should be between 500 and 1,000 words. To submit written entries, contestants must either send:

• An electronic submission, saved as a Microsoft Word file (.doc or .docx) or a PDF file to tpinfo@templetonpress.org.

Scholarship Award - The Prudential Spirit of Community Awards, USA

Description
The Prudential Spirit of Community Awards program is the United States' largest youth recognition program based exclusively on volunteer community service. The program was created in 1995 by Prudential in partnership with the National Association of Secondary School Principals (NASSP) to honor middle level and high school students for outstanding service to others at the local, state, and national level.

The program's goals are to applaud young people who already are making a positive difference in their towns and neighborhoods, and to inspire others to think about how they might contribute to their communities. Over the past 17 years, more than 345,000 young Americans have participated in the program, and more than 100,000 of them have been officially recognized for their volunteer efforts.

Eligibility
This program is targeted for young person who meet the following qualification:

• is in grades 5-12 as of November 6,
• is a legal resident of any U.S. state or Washington, D.C.,
• has engaged in a volunteer activity that occurred at least partly during the 12 months prior to the date of application, and
• submits a completed scholarship application to a school principal or the head of an officially designated local organization by November 6.

Application Procedure
Your application should:

1. describe an individual's community service activity or an individual's significant leadership in a group activity that has taken place during the previous year,
2. be completed and submitted to a school principal or the head of an officially designated local organization by November 6, and
3. be certified by the principal of a middle level or high school or the head of an officially designated local organization.

Scholarship Award - Beans for Brains Scholarship Program, USA

Description
The scholarship award is specially sponsored by Jimmy Beans Wool. It is available for all leve of stdies: graduating high school seniors, undergraduate, graduate and professional school students in any course of study

Scholarship Research - NIH Exploratory/Developmental Research Grant Award (R21), USA

Description
The R21 grant mechanism is intended to encourage exploratory/developmental research by providing support for the early and conceptual stages of project development. The NIH has standardized the Exploratory/Developmental Grant (R21) application characteristics, requirements, preparation, and review procedures in order to accommodate investigator-initiated (unsolicited) grant applications.

The R21 Parent Funding Opportunity Announcement (FOA) for investigator-initiated R21 applications can be found at PA-11-261 and articulates the policies and procedures that apply to this grant mechanism.

The Scholarship award will scope as follow:

1. Exploratory, novel studies that break new ground or extend previous discoveries toward new directions or applications.
2. High risk high reward studies that may lead to a breakthrough in a particular area, or result in novel techniques, agents, methodologies, models or applications that will impact biomedical, behavioral, or clinical research.
3. Projects should be distinct from those supported through the traditional R01 mechanism.
