Chatham House, in partnership with the Robert Bosch Stiftung, invites scholars from Armenia, Azerbaijan, Belarus, Georgia, Moldova, Russia and Ukraine to apply for a Visiting Fellowship at Chatham House in London.  The Succesful applicants will spend six months each working at Chatham House with the Russia and Eurasia Programme team. During this time they will conduct a research project of their own design relating to the politics, economies and societies of the post-Soviet region.

Applications are invited for a Research Fellow or Senior Research Fellow - Russia (depending on experience) for the Russia and Eurasia Programme. The successful candidate will be responsible for undertaking research and research projects leading to published output on Russia and the western post-Soviet region and undertaking fundraising for such research. Although the primary focus will be Russia, expertise in one or more of the western post-Soviet states would be desirable.

Eligibility
The following are the main requirements of this job:

• Minimum of three years' research experience (10 years for Senior Research Fellow)
• Substantial track record of publishing on Russia. A Senior Research Fellow should be an internationally recognized authority on the area
• Fluency in English and Russian
• Evidence of successful project management
• Proven history of successful fundraising.

PhD Position In Bayesian Model Selection for Structural Equation Models At Amsterdam University, Netherlands

Description
This project focuses on the development of default Bayesian hypothesis tests for structural equation models. These models have found broad application in the social sciences, and recent work has stressed the advantages of analyzing such models in the Bayesian framework (e.g., Lee, 2007). The main challenges that need to be overcome are the appropriate specification of default prior distributions and the efficient computation of the Bayesian hypothesis tests. This project is part of the ERC project “Bayes or Bust: Sensible Hypothesis Tests for Social Scientists” that involves a team of two postdocs, a PhD student, and a programmer.

The appointment will be for a period of four years (one year plus a further three years after a positive evaluation) and should lead to a dissertation. The gross monthly salary will be in accordance with the University regulations for academic personnel, and will range from € 2,043 (first year) up to a maximum of  € 2,612 (fourth year).

Eligibility
Candidates must hold (or will soon be awarded) a research-oriented master’s degree or equivalent in a field such as statistics, psychological methods, or mathematics. Experience in programming and some background in Bayesian statistics is highly desirable.

Uppsala University PhD studentship position in Medical Science, Sweden

Description
We are seeking a highly qualified candidate for PhD studies in medical systems biology, particularly cancer systems biology. In this cross-disciplinary project, conducted in Sven Nelander’s lab, our goal is to map and understand how brain tumor-derived stem cells respond to rationally designed drug combinations. To achieve this, we combine mathematical models of drug response of cancer pathways, with cell experiments in a panel of cancer-derived stem cells, conducted at the SciLifeLab facilities.

Eligibility
Highly motivated candidates with a Masters degree in the fields of biotechnology, medicine, pharmacology, biology or biomedicine. We are equally interested in applications from biologically oriented candidates with a Masters degree in a technical or theoretical subject, e.g. physics, engineering, mathematics or computer science. Previous experience in experimental or computational bioscience is considered a merit, as well as experience in cell culture, screening and/or computer programming.

The Department of Arts and Cultural Studies, Faculty of Humanities, Copenhagen University, Denmark invites applications for an associate, alternatively assistant professorship in Modern Culture with special focus on Cultural Policy Studies to be filled by 1 August 2012 or as soon as possible thereafter.

An assistant professorship is a three-year, fixed-term academic position involving research and teaching. The Kennan Institute provides a work space and research assistant for each Summer Scholar. Travel and accommodation expenses are not directly covered by this grant. The Summer Research Scholarships will provide a stipend of $6400 for 62 days ($103.22/day).

Your tasks
You would be primarily involved in the medical physics aspects of the exisitng gantry and with the development and commissioning of our second gantry (e.g. definition of specifications, commissioning and acceptance, treatment planning, etc). As such, you would be expected to share the responsibilities of these duties with the other medical physicists in the group. In addition, you would also be expected to contribute significantly to the research interests of the group, in particular in the areas of image guidance and treatment planning.

Eligibility
You should ideally be a qualified and board certified (or equivalent) Medical Physicist, with experience in radiotherapy and/or imaging. However, exceptional candidates without such qualifications would also be considered. Good and demonstrable software and IT skills would be advantageous. Furthermore, you should be prepared to work in a team and have a good knowledge of German and English.
