Novo Nordisk and Novozymes offer scholarships to support graduate training of some of the best students in protein science, biotechnology, bioinformatics, molecular biology, systems biology, translational medicine, microbiology, biophysics, pharmacology, medical research methodology, pharmacy, drug delivery and biomedical devices.The purpose is to allow selected students at universities in Denmark and Lund University to devote full time to their MSc thesis (in Danish: speciale).

Benefits:
The scholarship amounts to DKK 7,000 per month for up to 12 months at a maximum of DKK 84,000 for a one year MSc thesis project. The scholarship cannot be extended. The scholarship can be initiated anytime between 1 February, 2013 and 1 September, 2013. If the MSc thesis project is initiated before 1 February next year, the grant will cover the remaining period from 1 February.

Eligibility

• Students enrolled at a Danish university or Lund University at the time of submitting the application. The university supervisor must be associated with the same institution. Marks for bachelor project, if part of the curriculum must be at least 10 and weighted average for the bachelor minimum 8.2 (7-point scale).
• The student may spend some time during the MSc thesis project at an institution outside the university such as Novo Nordisk/Novozymes R&D labs or an institution abroad. However, master students performing or having agreements to perform their thesis work at Novo Nordisk/Novozymes cannot apply.

2013-2014 International GHES Fellowships Awards, USA

Description
This fellowship program specially aimed to to support a one-year mentored research fellowship for investigators who are interested in studying diseases and conditions in developing countries. The program will provide trainees with outstanding, interdisciplinary education and training in innovative global health research designed to promote health equity for populations around the world. Trainees will be matched with top-tier global health research faculty from one of the four participating U.S. institutions and an international site, thus enabling them to engage in rich and enduring, mentored research experiences that will foster scientific and career development in global health research.

Benefit:
The successful applicants will receive the benefits as follow: Fellowships will provide support for 11 consecutive months of stipend, health insurance, modest researchsupply costs, travel costs to and from the international field site, and a five-day orientation on the campus ofthe National Institutes of Health. Junior faculty will receive funding for research supplies and travel costs.Fellowships are anticipated to begin in July 2013.

Eligibility
To be considered in this scholarship award interested applicants must meet the following requirements:

• U.S.-based junior faculty with a current NIH K award or other career development/independence award;
• U.S.-based post-doctoral fellows (PhD, MD, or DVM).
• U.S.-based advanced doctoral students enrolled in health-related doctoral programs, supported by a mentor (PI) at one of the four consortium institutions, who have passed their qualifying examination.
• U.S.-based senior professional students (MD, DDS, DVM, PharmD, etc.) who have completed 3 years of professional school, who have a mentor (PI) at one of the 4 consortium institutions.
• Foreign scholars from participating international sites: investigators within 5 years of their terminal degree (PhD, MD, etc.) and postdocs are eligible to apply.

• All applicants must have demonstrated interest in, and statement of commitment to, a career in global health research.

• For US-based post-doctoral applicants, preference is given to those who have received support from their institution’s NIH T32 or other research training grants, or from their institution’s research oriented global health residency and fellowship training programs.

This program is specially purposed to analyze the rich mobility traces captured by Oulu’s city-wide WiFi, Bluetooth and traffic infrastructure to understand better city-scale movement and develop ubiquitous computing applications.The University of Oulu is an international research and innovation university engaged in multidisciplinary basic research and academic education. Douglas Cohen Prize for Paediatric Surgery At Sydney University, Australia

Established in 1985 by the offer of an annual donation from the Board of Management of the Royal Alexandra Hospital for Children. The Prize is now sponsored by The Sydney Children’s Hospitals Network.

Eligibility

INTERNATIONAL AWARD OF EBERHARD WENZEL SCHOLARSHIP IN PUBLIC HEALTH AT GRIFFITH UNIVERSITY, AUSTRALIA

The late Dr Eberhard Wenzel was an academic in the School of Public Health and worked in public health with a range of international health agencies for over 20 years. Dr Wenzel had a tremendous knowledge and understanding of public health issues facing humanity and his establishment of the Virtual Library for Public Health and the International Public Health Watch websites provided important means for him to engage with others who shared his passion for the field.

The purpose of this grant scholarship is to enable students to undertake research which will advance understanding of a public health topic relevant to the academic interests of the late Dr Eberhard Wenzel.

PhD Scholarship Research In Mental Health, Australia

Description
Australian Rotary Health currently funds 10 Mental Health PhD Research Scholarships and 40 PhD Scholarships in other areas of health research.  PhD scholars funded by Australian Rotary Health are provided with media and presentation training. Using these skills, Scholars regularly present their work to Rotary Clubs. This has fostered many valued links between Scholars and Rotary Clubs.

In light of the success of the PhD Scholarship program, the Australian Rotary Health Board has decided that greater emphasis will be given to funding PhD Scholarships. To achieve this for 2013, Australian Rotary Health will fund 10 new Mental Health PhD Scholarships, replacing the previous research project grant funding program.

The Spinal Cord Injury Medicine (SCIM) Fellowship is a 12- month program which focuses on specialized training on the prevention, diagnosis, treatment, and management of traumatic spinal cord injury, and nontraumatic myelopathies.

The SCIM Fellowship Scholarship will include clinical experiences in the initial acute care management, acute rehabilitation and outpatient/chronic management of persons with spinal cord dysfunction. (Grants Scholarships) Postdoc (and predoc) Positions at Sealy Center on Aging, Texas University, USA

Description
The Sealy Center on Aging at the University of Texas Medical Branch in Galveston, Texas has openings for both pre-doctoral and post-doctoral positions. These positions are for research focusing on the health of older minorities, with an emphasis on older Hispanics. Trainees collaborate with Center faculty who have over $42 million in research pertaining to minority health and aging in the areas of comparative effectiveness, medical outcomes, health service utilization, social epidemiology, psychosocial stress and health promotion. Aging-related research initiatives at UTMB include the Center for Comparative Effectiveness Research on Cancer in Texas (CERCIT)

Exceptional candidates will qualify for an additional $5,000 – $10,000 over the NIH stipend level plus moving expenses. All trainees receive full health care benefits Additional funds are available to cover tuition and fees for relevant courses and other training related expenses.
